Is Your Car a Value Or a Money Pit?

If you are spending too much time in the repair shop, you might want to rethink the value of your car and what it has to offer you. Nobody has time or patience to spend worrying about car issues.

When you first purchase your car, you can set up an Excel spreadsheet to track all auto related expenses from fuel economy to the date for the next service. The owner’s manual will detail the due date for all services that will keep your car in proper working order. Keeping a spreadsheet will keep you and your car on track.

Below is an example of a car schedule worksheet. To track the auto mileage, fill in formulas and you won’t have to manually calculate each entry. (Click the image to view full size)

Set up the oil change and service maintenance for the same day and you can further condense your time with the mechanic.

By tracking your autos mileage, maintenance, and repairs, you will always know the value of your car. If the gas mileage isn’t great, trading the car in for something with better fuel economy would be a value move.

A well maintained car and a mechanic who is a perfectionist will keep your car on the road for a long time and save you money over the course of time. Riding a bike or taking the bus isn’t always convenient, so set up your spreadsheet now to get your car on track for a very long life!

Use the money you save to take that road trip and enjoy yourself without the worry!
